Check the member
Review their profile, how long they have been a member, completed swaps and feedback. A good history may be useful information, but it is not a guarantee.
WotUGot provides a place for members to swap, sell, buy, seek and give away items and contact one another. We cannot inspect every item, verify every person, supervise exchanges or protect member-to-member payments. Never treat a listing, profile, rating or message as a guarantee.
Do not proceed simply because a member is registered on WotUGot. Check the item, the person and the proposed arrangements for yourself. If you are unsure, walk away and report anything suspicious.

Ask clear questions. Request current photographs or evidence where appropriate. Check model numbers, serial numbers, condition, ownership and anything else important to you.
A Shift item is free. Agree collection or delivery clearly, and do not send money because someone asks for a deposit, courier fee or release charge for a supposed free item. Check the member and item as you would for any other arrangement.
Where practical, meet in a public, well-lit place. Tell someone where you are going. Consider taking another person with you and avoid isolated locations.
Do not complete the exchange until you have had a reasonable opportunity to inspect and, where relevant, test the item. Check that it matches what was agreed.
Do not share passwords, one-time codes, banking credentials or unnecessary personal information. Keep initial communication on WotUGot where possible.
Posting or couriering items removes the opportunity to inspect in person and creates additional risk. Decide for yourself whether that risk is acceptable and use tracked or insured services where appropriate.
WotUGot does not hold money or provide escrow or buyer protection. Be wary of pressure to pay quickly, unusual payment methods, overpayment requests, requests for gift cards or cryptocurrency, and links that ask you to sign in to a bank or payment account.
Do not rely on screenshots or messages claiming that payment has been made. Check your own bank or payment account before handing over or posting an item. Never send money back because a buyer claims to have overpaid.
Urgency, requests to move conversation elsewhere immediately, inconsistent details, unusual payment requests or refusal to answer reasonable questions are reasons to stop and reassess.
Use the report tools for suspicious listings, harassment, prohibited items or rule breaches. Moderation can remove content or restrict accounts, but cannot recover items or resolve every private dispute.
Sales and cash offers can use the same 4-stage tracking system as swaps. For a cash sale, the buyer records payment sent, the seller records the item sent or handed over, and each side then confirms receipt. These status updates are a record of what members say has happened; they are not payment verification, escrow, buyer protection or a guarantee. Sellers should check their own payment account before releasing an item, and buyers should inspect goods where possible before confirming receipt.
Stories are reviewed before public display. Listing videos can appear with posts without Story pre-approval. Moderation is not a guarantee that every statement, person, item or situation shown in a video is genuine or safe. WotUGot does not impose a general family-friendly rule on lawful Story content, so you may encounter mature subject matter.
Illegal content is not permitted. Do not upload child sexual abuse material, non-consensual intimate imagery, credible threats, fraud, terrorist content or other unlawful material. You must also have the rights and any legally required consent needed to share people, music, images or video.
Do not use Stories to share private addresses, banking details, passwords, one-time codes or other information that could put you or somebody else at risk. Report any Story that appears illegal, unsafe, misleading or in breach of the site's rules.
Some items may require specialist knowledge, legal compliance, proof of ownership, age restrictions, safety checks or professional installation. You are responsible for checking the law and deciding whether you are qualified to assess, receive or use an item.
Stop contact if you feel unsafe. Preserve messages, photographs, listing details and other evidence. Report the account or listing to WotUGot. If you believe a crime, fraud, threat or immediate danger is involved, contact the appropriate police or emergency service.
WotUGot is not an insurer, dispute-resolution service or compensation scheme. We may moderate the platform, but we do not promise to recover property, reimburse losses, enforce private agreements or determine who is legally at fault.
Nothing on this page removes rights or liabilities that cannot legally be excluded. The full legal position is set out in our Terms.
