STEP-BY-STEP GUIDES

Getting started

I'm new. What should I do first?
  1. Use Browse to see what people are offering.
  2. If you want to post something, press Add listing in the top menu.
  3. If you want to talk privately to someone, use Messages.
  4. If you want to talk to the community, open Chat.
  5. Your own listings, Stories, offers and profile tools are available from your Profile.

You cannot damage anything by looking around. If a button performs an important action, WotUGot will normally ask you to confirm or provide the required information first.

What do Swap, Sell, Seek and Shift mean?
  • Swap — you have something and want to exchange it for something else.
  • Sell — you have something you want to sell for money.
  • Seek — you are looking for something and want other members to know.
  • Shift — you are giving something away for free.

Choose the one that best matches what you are trying to do. You can start from Add listing.

Listings: posting, editing and deals

How do I add a post/listing?
  1. Press Add listing.
  2. Choose Swap, Sale, Shift or Seek.
  3. Enter a clear title and description.
  4. Choose the correct category and any other requested details.
  5. Add your photo or photos if the listing type allows them.
  6. Check the information, then press Publish my item or the equivalent publish button.

Tip: a useful title is specific. “Black Fender guitar amp” is much better than “amp”.

How do I add photos to a listing?

While creating or editing the listing, use the photo upload controls to choose pictures from your device. Your account level controls how many listing photos you can use. WotUGot accepts common image formats and will tell you if a file cannot be used.

If the listing is already live, open your Profile, find it under Active posts, press Edit, then add or change the available images.

How do I edit, remove or renew one of my listings?
  1. Open your Profile.
  2. Go to Active posts or Other posts.
  3. When a post reaches its time limit it is hidden from the public site immediately.
  4. You then have 7 days to press Renew post and put the same post back live, or Delete post if you no longer need it.
  5. If you do nothing during that renewal window, the expired post is automatically deleted.

This applies to Swap, Sell, Seek, Shift and Local Service posts. Renewing keeps the existing post, photos and details so you do not have to create it again.

How do offers and tracked deals work?

Where a listing supports tracked offers, the basic flow is Offer → Accept → Complete → Rate.

  1. A member makes an offer from the listing.
  2. The owner decides whether to accept it.
  3. You both arrange the actual handover, swap, collection, delivery or payment yourselves.
  4. When it is genuinely finished, mark the deal complete.
  5. Leave feedback/rating when offered.

Do not mark something complete before the real-world deal is finished.

How do Shift and Seek replies work?

Shift and Seek use direct Messages, not swap offers.

  • For a Shift, message the owner to arrange collection. The owner marks the post collected after the handover.
  • For a Seek post, use the message button to tell the poster “I’ve got this” and arrange the details directly. The poster marks the request found when they no longer need it.
How do I save something I like?

Use the wishlist/save control shown on supported listings. Your saved items can be found from your profile/account links where the Wishlist is available.

What is a boost and how do I use one?

A boost gives an active listing extra visibility by moving it back up where supported. If you have boosts available, use the boost control on your listing/profile management area. Purchased boosts and account rewards are shown separately where applicable.

Boosts expire after their configured validity period once used; they are not a permanent position at the top.

Private messages

How do I send somebody a private message?

Open the member/listing and use its message/contact option, or go straight to Messages to continue an existing conversation.

  1. Open the conversation.
  2. Type in the message box.
  3. Press the send button.

Private messages are separate from the public chatroom.

How do I send a picture in a private message?
  1. Open Messages and select the conversation.
  2. Press + Send picture.
  3. Choose the image from your device.
  4. Add text if you want to, then send the message.

Message pictures can be JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF and must be within the upload size limit shown by the site.

Can I delete or report a message?

Use the controls provided in Messages for deleting a conversation from your own view or reporting inappropriate content. WotUGot retains the moderation/legal record it needs even when a conversation is removed from the normal member view.

Live public chat

How do I use the live chatroom?
  1. Press Chat in the main navigation.
  2. If an entry/rules notice is shown, read it and continue into the room.
  3. The public room is the main community chat.
  4. Type your message in the box that says Write a message….
  5. Press send to post it to the room.

Messages in the public chat can be seen by everyone currently using the room. For a private conversation, use Messages instead.

How do I mention somebody in chat?

Type @ followed by their username in your chat message. The message box itself also reminds you that @ can be used to mention someone.

What happens if somebody causes trouble in chat?

Chat moderators and administrators can moderate the room, including restrictions or bans where needed. Use the available report/moderation route rather than escalating an argument yourself. Site access and chat access can be moderated separately.

Read the safety guidance →

Is there a private chatroom?

No. Private chatrooms were removed. If you want a private one-to-one conversation, use Messages. Messages support both text and pictures.

Friends, Stories and community

How do I add someone as a friend?
  1. Open Members or another member's profile.
  2. Use the friend/request control on their profile.
  3. They can accept or decline the request.
  4. Open Friends to see accepted friends, incoming requests and outgoing requests.
How do I add a Story?
  1. Open your Profile.
  2. Open the Stories section.
  3. Choose your video and accept the Story rules.
  4. Upload it.

Stories are short videos. Your account level controls how many can be active/pending, and the current maximum video length is set by WotUGot. Stories may require approval before other members see them.

How does Recommend a Friend work?

Open Recommend a friend for your referral link and the current reward amounts. Share your link with someone new; qualifying sign-ups/recommendations are tracked against your account and rewards are credited according to the current site rules.

How do I change my profile?

Open your Profile and use Edit profile for your public details and interests. Account appearance, privacy and security settings live under Settings.

Account, subscription and safety

How do subscriptions work and how do I cancel?

Open Subscription to see the current plans and benefits. If you have a rolling subscription, its cancellation/manage controls appear there when applicable. Cancelling a rolling plan stops future renewal; access remains available through the already-paid period where the plan terms say so.

What happens to my posts if I cancel a subscription?

Listings keep the expiry date they were given while you were subscribed, up to the paid subscriber maximum. Cancelling does not shorten an already-created listing. New listings and renewals use the limits of your current account level.

How do I change light/dark mode or text size?

Open Settings → Appearance. Choose the appearance/text-size option you want and save it. Your saved preference follows your account.

How do I change my password?

Go to Settings → Security, enter your current password and choose a new one. If you cannot sign in, use the account-recovery option from the sign-in page instead.

How do I delete my account?

Use Settings → Delete account. You must confirm with your current password and type DELETE. Cancel any rolling subscription first.

How do I report a member, listing or message?

Use the Report control on the relevant listing, message or profile where available. Reports go to the moderation team. For trading guidance, prohibited items and general safety, read Stay safe.

Can a ban be temporary?

Yes. Site access and chat access can be restricted separately, and moderators/administrators can apply timed or permanent restrictions where the moderation tools allow it. A timed restriction ends at its recorded expiry.

I still can't find the answer. How do I contact the team?

Use Contact us. Tell us what page you were on, what you clicked and what happened. If there was an error message, include the exact wording.
